A jump in swine flu cases in WA

There's been a jump in the number of swine flu cases in Western Australia with students from three schools among those affected.

"There's now 14 confirmed cases.

The increase follows a trip to Melbourne by an under twelve football club with some of those students returning to Perth and attending a music camp before they'd been diagnosed.

The acting headmaster of Scotch College, Peter Freitag, says there are five confirmed and five probable cases at the middle school which has 200 students.

"The Health Department gave us strong advice that we close year six and seven for a week and we are going to follow that procedure, follow that advice and as of now, we're just actually ringing around from school to advise parents that six and seven will not be operating for this week."

East Claremont Primary School, which has 100 students, will also be closed this week after a student tested positive for swine flu.

Christchurch Grammar is shutting down Year Seven after two students came down with the virus.

It's headmaster, Garth Wynne, says the two students are believed to have contracted swine flu on the football club trip to Melbourne."
